About Us
Our Purpose
Picture this: It’s 6:30 PM on a Tuesday. You’ve just finished a long day at work, and you’re standing in your kitchen staring at a meal prep container of dry, boiled chicken breast and steamed broccoli. Again.
You know it’s “good for you.” You know it hits your macros. But your brain is screaming for a burger, or pasta, or literally anything that tastes like joy. You check your bank account and realize you spent $180 at the grocery store this week, mostly on “health foods” that you barely want to eat.
That’s when it hit us: Why does being healthy have to feel like punishment?
We started HealthyFood.ca because we lived through that dinner-time misery. All three of us—Sarah, Elena, and Jamie—had that exact moment where we realized the wellness industry was selling us a lie: that you have to choose between your fitness goals and your taste buds.
We’ve been there—choking down chalky protein shakes, feeling guilty about eating a slice of pizza, and wondering if we were crazy for thinking we could hit 30g of protein without being miserable. Spoiler alert: we weren’t crazy. Neither are you.
Our Mission
Every single day, we’re helping Canadians turn their comfort food cravings into high-protein fuel—without the guilt trips or the $100 grocery bills.
Sarah tests every “fakeout takeout” recipe in her kitchen first (yes, she makes high-protein Crunchwraps that actually crunch). Elena runs the nutritional math to ensure you aren’t just eating empty calories. And Jamie? She personally tests every recipe against the chaos of a working mom’s schedule, ensuring that “20 minutes” actually means 20 minutes.
We do this because thousands of you trust us with your health goals, and that keeps us up at night in the best possible way. When a reader emails us to say her picky toddler finally ate lentils because of our “Hidden Veggie Mac & Cheese,” or when a college student tells us our $5 meal prep saved his budget—those moments remind us why we exist.
Our Core Values
- Flavor is Non-Negotiable: Just because it’s “healthy” doesn’t mean it gets a pass on taste. Sarah learned this the hard way in culinary school. If it tastes like cardboard, we don’t publish it. Period.
- Science Beats Trends: We don’t chase fads. While influencers are pushing expensive greens powders, Elena is digging into the biochemistry of fiber and protein. We focus on what actually works for your biology, not what looks good on Instagram.
- Affordability is Accessibility: We believe nutrition shouldn’t be gatekept by income. If a recipe requires a $40 ingredient from a specialty store, we rewrite it. We shop at No Frills and Metro, just like you.
- Real Life Durability: We test for the real world. Jamie ensures our meal preps don’t turn into mush by Thursday. We know you don’t have time to cook every night, so our food has to last.
Meet Our Expert Team (The Humans Behind the Recipes)
Sarah Jenkins, CNP – Lead Recipe Developer & “The Flavor Architect” Sarah didn’t plan to become a “healthy” chef. Ten years ago, she was working in high-end kitchens, loading dishes with butter and cream because “fat is flavor.” But when she started her own fitness journey, she hit a wall: she couldn’t stick to the bland diet plans her trainer gave her. Instead of quitting, she started experimenting. She reverse-engineered her favorite fast-food burgers, swapping processed fillers for lean meats and fiber-rich binders. She created sauces that tasted indulgent but were secretly packed with protein. Now, Sarah has developed over 500 “dupe” recipes that trick your taste buds. She is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner who bridges the gap between culinary indulgence and nutritional strictness. Her specialty? Making a 500-calorie burger taste like a 1,200-calorie cheat meal. Contact Sarah directly: sarah.jenkins@healthyfood.ca
Dr. Elena Vance, PhD – Senior Nutrition Strategist & “The Science Anchor” Elena is the reason we don’t publish “detox teas.” With a PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry and 15 years of research into metabolic health, she was tired of seeing dangerous advice spread online. She watched people fear fruit because of “sugar” while ignoring the importance of fiber and gut health. Elena ensures that when we say “High Protein,” it’s mathematically and biologically true. She reviews every single recipe to optimize the macronutrient profile. She isn’t just a fact-checker; she’s a teacher who wants you to understand why your body craves what it craves. Her specialty is demystifying nutrition labels and helping you understand how to fuel your body without obsession. Contact Elena directly: elena.vance@healthyfood.ca
Jamie Thorne – Head of Content & “The Efficiency Queen” Jamie became the efficiency expert out of necessity. As a working mom of two with a chaotic schedule, she didn’t have time for Sarah’s complex culinary techniques or Elena’s scientific papers. She needed dinner on the table in 20 minutes, or everyone was eating cereal. Jamie is the voice of the reader. She takes Sarah’s chef-level recipes and simplifies them. She figures out how to prep 5 days of lunches in one hour. She is the one who says, “Nobody is going to chop an onion that small on a Tuesday,” and forces us to make the recipe easier. If a recipe on our site is tagged “20-Minute Skillet,” it’s because Jamie timed it herself while breaking up a sibling fight. Contact Jamie directly: jamie.thorne@healthyfood.ca
How We Actually Do This Work
Every morning starts the same way: we check in with our community. Jamie reviews the comments from parents looking for lunchbox ideas, Sarah heads to the kitchen to test a new “Dupe,” and Elena reviews the latest nutritional studies to see if the guidelines have changed.
We don’t just create content – we eat it. Every recipe you see has been our lunch or dinner. When Sarah’s first attempt at “Healthy Cookie Dough” tasted like chickpeas (disaster!), she threw it out and started over so you wouldn’t have to.
Our approach is simple: Chef flavor + PhD science + Mom efficiency = Healthy food you actually eat.
Why Trust Us?
Here’s the truth: we aren’t just a content farm. We are a real team operating under GOPLATED LLC, a registered media company.
- Verified Expertise: Our team includes a PhD scientist and a Certified Nutritional Practitioner.
- Rigorous Testing: We test recipes with grocery store brands, not professional supplier ingredients.
- Transparency: We admit when a “healthy version” will never taste exactly like the deep-fried original, and we manage your expectations honestly.
